Your Guided Tour to a Complete Green Cleaning Makeover

5: Evaluate Your Dishwashing Routine

Let’s get this party started—you’re almost there with transforming your home to beautiful, natural green cleaning solutions. Well done!

Step 5 is a combo deal: the holy grail of DIY green cleaners (Dishwasher Tablets) and the trickiest switch to make (Dishwashing Liquid).

Dishwashing Liquid

I’m going to be upfront: DIY Dishwashing Liquid can be a tough adjustment. It’s a pure soap-based solution without artificial foaming agents, so it won’t bubble up like conventional dish liquids. However, it’s also free from the chemicals that cause algae blooms.

Currently, we stock liquid Castile Soap, which can be a bit 'oily' for dishwashing. I’m working on a pure liquid coconut soap that would be ideal for this purpose, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, I recommend using a hard dish soap bar. It’s a traditional method that has stood the test of time.

We also offer handy soap swisher cages to help you lather the soap in hot water and make the most of soap scraps.

Dishwasher Tablets

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the prices of dishwasher tablets these days—consumers are really getting taken for a ride. Not only is it crazy to pay so much just to wash your dishes, but who knows what’s actually in them?

I haven’t bought dishwasher tablets in over 7 years and have no intention of doing so again. Instead, I use a simple powder that I pour directly into the dishwasher compartment—easy and effective!

If you want to try this simple, eco-friendly solution, I offer a pre-mixed option so you can test it out without having to buy all the ingredients yourself.

It comes with detailed instructions on how to use it, how it’s made, and even additional uses around the home.
