Using a Foaming Soap Pump: A Simple Guide with tips!

If you’re looking for a more efficient and eco-friendly way to use your soap, a foaming soap pump is an excellent solution. These pumps are designed to create a rich lather while using less soap, making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice for everyday handwashing.

Step 1: Choose the Right Soap

To get the best results from your foaming pump, you’ll need the right soap formula. Foaming pumps work best with pure liquid soap, just like our beautiful Castile soap. See what makes a pure soap here

Most store bought liquid soaps are full of foaming and thickening agents - so be cautious as to what you try.

Step 2: Fill the Pump Bottle

For this 250ml bottle, you only need a small amount of liquid soap 10-25ml liquid Castile Soap (5-10%) and the rest is simply water.

Be sure not to overfill—leave some space at the top so the pump can work properly. You can adjust the amount of soap to your preference and even add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for natural scent.

If you are in area of hard water, we recommend using distilled water for more effectiveness, otherwise normal tap water or pre-boiled water is fine.

Step 3: Attach the lid gently

These pumps rely on air, so the lids are secured gently and not super tight like a normal pump closure. Just attach is and gently turn so its attached securely. If you try screw it too tight you might find it pops off.

Step 4: Pump and lather

To use the foaming soap pump, simply press down on the pump. The pump will mix the soap with air to create a foamy lather. Unlike regular soap pumps, you won’t need to use a lot of soap to get a rich foam. A little goes a long way!

The foam is perfect for cleaning your hands, face, or any other surface, as it spreads easily and lathers quickly.

Troubleshooting Tips

While foaming soap pumps are simple and effective, sometimes they may experience a few issues. Here are some common problems and how to fix them:

1. No Foam Comes Out
If your foaming pump isn’t dispensing foam, check the following:

  • Soap Consistency: Make sure the soap is diluted enough. If it's too thick, the pump may struggle to create foam.
  • Clogged Pump: The nozzle or pump mechanism may be clogged. Try running warm water through the pump or disassembling it to clean it out.
  • Pump Not Engaged: Make sure the pump is fully depressed when in use. Sometimes the pump mechanism may need to be pushed down more firmly to work properly.

2. Foam is Too Thin or Watery
If the foam is too thin and watery, adjust the soap-to-water ratio. You can increase the amount of soap to water until you find the consistency that works best for you.

3. Soap is Dripping Instead of Foaming
If soap is dripping instead of foaming, this is likely due to a pump malfunction or clogged nozzle. Clean the pump by disassembling it and soaking it in warm water for a few minutes. Dry it thoroughly before reassembling. You may also want to check the bottle for any soap buildup.

4. Pump is Stiff or Hard to Press
If the pump feels stiff or difficult to press, firstly try open and gently close to allow some air in the bottle. If that fails try disassembling it and washing it thoroughly. Sometimes soap residue or air bubbles can cause the pump to become stiff. A little cleaning and a light press should solve the issue.

A foaming soap pump is a simple, eco-friendly way to get the most out of your soaps and cleaning products. With just a small amount of soap and water, you can create a luxurious foam that lasts longer, making it not only better for your skin but also better for the planet.
